Ok...so...inserting a DivaCup becomes easier with practice, right? Or am I the only dumbass that had to take a stupid amount of time inserting the first time?

It gets better - but the knack for it practically takes advanced degrees in geometry and physics.

Heh, well good to know it gets better. I'm sure removing it is going to be a joy as well.

It does get easier. It takes me about five minutes to get it in now. Still a bit long on the removal. Don't forget to break the seal when you take it out!

This is probably so TMI...

I tried the removal a bit ago (more to figure out how than any necessity)...that was a bit rough. I couldn't grip the bottom of it well enough with one hand to break the seal, so I had to use both hands (one to hold the stem, and the other to push the cup and break the seal). Clearly I suck. I should have a show called "Lauren's DivaCup adventures". On the plus side the stem doesn't poke me, when it's placed properly.

I'm the queen of TMI

I find it easier to get the cup out when I "bear down" or use the same sort of muscles for a bowel movement. I don't care about getting it all over my hands as I'm usually at home when I change my cup, so I try to fold the cup into a C-fold after I've broken the seal, and then take it out. Less painful for me that way.

Whoa, five minutes? That sound like rather a long time. It's the first time I've heard anything negative about the divecup, though - must admit I'm beginning to be tempted to try it.

I didn't mean it as a negative! It's about thirty seconds or so to get the cup in, then I have to fiddle with the bottom for about ten seconds to make sure it's opened (I use a fold that doesn't always open). I always wash out my cup and hands before and after I do anything, which is what makes up the five minutes. I counted that in with my estimate.

As for removal: just the act of removing the cup takes me five to ten minutes because I haven't gotten used to it yet. I've only had my cup for five cycles!

I think with menstrual cups the trick is to practise. I'm sure in a few months I'll be better.

I'm terrified of tampons and divacups. Things don't belong up there! And I don't care how flawed that logic is. One day I will meet a nice boy who will change my mind. Or I'll just give in and stop being a wuss.

I brought one but have so far been unsuccessful at using it. Mostly because am horribly lazy but also because OW. One day I will stop being lame about it though because the benefits seem like they would massively outweigh the disadvantages.

It is a bit of a bitch to use when you start, I think.

I've used one for years (actually a Keeper, but the same basic idea) and it did get pretty easy, fairly quickly. But I have to confess, I bought mine when I was a virgin and I actually didn't manage to insert it at all until after I started having sex with a guy; I couldn't seem to figure out how to get anything up there on my own! /tmi

*Hi!* I was just browsing through your recent entries to check out if you're the same person on IJ!

Heh, yeah, after a couple times it because easier (at least, the stupid stem isn't poking me anymore), and taking it out has become a bit better too (which was a pain in the ass the first few times), thank goodness.
