Ok, for those that don't really want to read about my new-found love of the DivaCup, and don't want to read about my period then you probably don't want to click on the cut.

After a few practice runs a couple weeks ago, I'm finally using my DivaCup while menstrating. It took a bit to figure out how to remove the damn thing quickly and easily, but now that I have down pat, things are going rather smoothly. I still wear a panty-liner because, um, I'm a bit paranoid, and because after inserting it I fear that because it's uh, a cup, and doesn't absorb, if there's some not caught by the cup before it opens after I insert it, that that bit has to go somewhere. So. But, even still, this'll end up saving me tons in the long run (even if do have to move up a size in the next few years).

Anyway, I use punchdown 'fold' to insert it (because it's way easier than c-fold), so I have to fiddle with it a bit to make sure it opens up, and then to remove it I have to 'bear down' and pull it along with my finger until it gets to the point where I can grasp the bottom with my thumb, and not pinch myself (because that's not so much the fun). I have to remember to keep the seal broken though, when I'm taking it out. Because sometimes I go to regrip with my thumb and it pops back open again. There was this one time when I just sort of grabbed the stem after it had popped back open and that wasn't too much fun, but I figured it out pretty quickly. I still panic a bit when I go to remove it and it's higher than I think it should be, because it's more difficult then, but other than that, things are going pretty smoothly, I figure.

Also retarded question. If you have a cup, how do you wash it between emptyings? I'm lucky enough that at home I can reach the sink while still sitting on the toilet, but...what if you can't?

I still have to upload all my icons to my other million journals which is taking some doing. If the fandom one gets up and running, I'd love to be able to upload multiple userpics at once. Because I'm either missing where I can do that, or the other sites don't have that option. Or, in the case of GJ, have that option and have it work.

I also had something else to write about, but I forget what it is.

I empty it out in the toilet and rinse out the inside at the sink. Of course, I'm still at the point where it still gets all over my hands (I'm a loser who likes to leave the cup in for ten hours at a time when I'm home) so I just hope that the blood on my hands/cup doesn't drip on my way to the sink. It hasn't so far.

As for public washrooms: if I know I'm going to be out for long periods of time, I make a note to check my cup regularly so that it doesn't fill up. When I remove it, I like to fold it again after I break the seal (while it's still inside me) and if the cup is full, there is guaranteed spillage. When it's not full, nothing gets on my hands, and if I have to, I can just wipe out the inside with some clean toilet paper.

See, I'm thinking more along the lines of "If it's a heavy day for me, and I have to walk to the sink to wash it without pants on, the bathroom throw rug may have to be cleaned...

Oh! As in bleeding from yourself? Hm... I've noticed that since I started using the cup, when I take it out, as I get up, there isn't a sudden rush of blood. I used to have that problem in a major way. :( I dunno. For the meantime, stick a bit of toilet paper to keep any stray droplets?
