If you haven't heard already there's a response to the recent journal suspensions in [livejournal.com profile] news. Do I wish there was a response earlier? Yes, but let's face it, LJ was fucked no matter what they did, especially since they suspended one of the heavyweights in a huge fandom. While I don't like saying it, I doubt the response would have been quite so large and angry, if fandom hadn't been hit.

I do appreciate, however, that they did make a statement.

Also...is it horrible that I'm considering a permaccount? Not because I've had my faith renewed in LJ/6A, I want to see more on this suspension issue, and have things clarified, but...the exchange rate right now is really good. I've spent more than holy shit 400 USD on LJ. Most in gifts, granted, but 100 USD or so was for me, and I kinda want a permaccount, because of the Canadian Dollar drops (which it probably will in the coming years), I don't want to feel like I'm paying 50 CAD/year for my journal, you know? I'd rather pay the 160-170 CAD (depending on the exchange rate I get) now.

Not to me. I can't remember if I've already yapped about this to you (the last days have been a blur for me on lj!), but people who think other blogging sites will be a free haven with nary a problem are STUPID IN THE HEAD! This shit can happen to us everywhere, and I for one am getting more and more convinced that with LJ, we actually have a much greater chance of being heard than we will on other blogging sites!

Heh. It's not so much about moving - I don't think anyone will be moving from LJ, to be honest. It's more of...so many people are all "OMFG, I was going to buy a permaccount, but because Lj/6A buleeted all those journals, I'm not going to!", and, if they stayed suspended, yeah, I probably wouldn't buy one. But they reinstated one heck of a lot of them, and apologised for it, and are sorting things out. And that means something to me. And, as I said, if/when the Canadian dollar falls I'll be paying more/year in my currency, so to me, it makes sense for me to get a permaccount now while the dollar is still good...well, to me it makes sense.
